What is Whole30? This is what I thought when it appeared on my social media feed. Soon after starting the keto diet, I began to research more.
Everybody needs a new start every now and again. Our diets are no exception. After the Christmas holidays, you might feel bloated or sluggish.
Perhaps you were guilty of snacking on chips and lounging on the couch way too often in winter. ).
No matter the reason, it feels like a great time to reset your diet.
You can do this in many different ways, but the Whole30 diet is the most popular.
People ask me about it all of the time. What is it and how does it differ to keto?
What is Whole30?
The Whole30 diet is a healthy eating plan that eliminates dairy, grains, sugar, legumes, and alcohol. ).
French fries and heavy cream are gone, but chicken and Brussel sprouts will be in!
There are many rules, and it can be difficult to know what you can do and what you cannot.
General Rules
The Whole30 diet is basically an elimination diet.
It's only for a few days (30 days is the norm), and you will see how different foods have impacted your appearance and quality of life. Here is the Whole30 Foods List.
These are the rules:
- Nuturing calories and macros is not an option. You can't count calories or macros.
- You don't have to weigh yourself. You should avoid the scales for 30 days.
- There is no sugar, alcohol, grains or legumes. This includes natural sugars such as honey and agave.
- There are no smoothies, unless absolutely necessary. It's okay to eat the ingredients individually, provided they are approved by you. However, they can't be blended together.
- You can't snack unless you absolutely have to. Then, it's just nuts, hard-boiled eggs or a small piece of jerky.
- No dessert (BIG bummer).
What can you eat while on Whole30?
There are many foods you can eat. Here are some suggestions:
- Meat. Any amount you want. You can have chicken, beef, burgers, sausages, and other meats. It is best to source ethically.
- Fish. fish is Whole30 approved.
- Vegetables and fruits. You can eat as many as you like, as often, as you wish.
- Eggs. Eggs that are free range and ethically sourced are the best.
- Kombucha. Make sure that sugar is not listed in the ingredients.
- Freshly-pressed vegetable juice.
- Nuts. This includes nut milk or nut butter.
- Coffee. coffee is okay, but it must be blackened or served with non-dairy and sugar-free creamer.
What are the benefits?
Everybody seems to respond to Whole30 differently.
People report weight loss, better focus, and better sleep.
Although the evidence is mostly from testimonials, it supports the idea that Whole30 might be able to improve these things.
What happens after the 30 days have ended?
You can now move on to the reintroduction phase after the 30 day period. You can now add back the foods that you have eliminated.
Slowly, one at a.m., to observe how different foods impact your mood, energy, digestion, and mood.
This will allow you to determine what is best for you.

What is the difference between keto and Whole30? Which 'diet' wins in a Whole30 battle against keto?
Different Focus
The major difference between Whole30 & keto is the keto diet, which puts your body in ketosis.
This is done by giving it plenty of healthy fats and very little carbohydrates. This causes your body to burn its own fat.
I have written more about the benefits and how it worked for me.
Whole30, on the other hand is about how you relate to food.
It is basically a one-month-long nutritional reset which allows you to determine what foods are good for your body and what don't.
Keto is recommended by a doctor
Keto was first developed in 1920 as a medical strategy to treat epileptic seizures in children.
Doctors recommend the keto diet today to fight severe obesity and other health issues.
However, the Whole30 diet is not supported by science.
Why keto is right for you!
It was due to a possible diagnosis of insulin resistance that I began the keto diet. This was later confirmed.
Whole30 uses whole foods, but many of these are still high carbohydrate. This wouldn't work!
More than that, keto was the right choice for me because it is a long-term, sustainable solution and not a 30-day reset.
I don't like the "no desserts rule"! I love to bake, and make the faux foods Whole30 doesn't recommend.
Oh... and I would miss my weekly gin!
I find Whole30 restrictive, especially in the long-term.

Even though temptation may cloud your judgment, ultimately, you are the only one who can decide what is best for your health and well-being.
Can you eat fruit on keto?
Are you curious about whether fruit can be eaten on a keto diet. However, be cautious.
To stay in ketosis and burn fat, the idea is to keep carbs to a minimum. However, some fruits can be included in a balanced and healthy keto diet.
Low-carb fruits and vegetables can be incorporated into a keto meal program, but should be consumed in moderation. Different fruits have different amounts of carbs. For example, avocados have very little carbs while bananas have much more.
Sugar is found in fruits, which are broken down into glucose by the body for energy production. Overdosing on sugar can cause blood sugar spikes, which can impede your efforts to achieve nutritional ketosis. It's important that you pay attention to the portion sizes of sugary items and not overdo it.
Fresh fruit is more nutritious than processed sugary snacks. This will help you fuel your body, without the added carbs of desserts and processed snacks such as pies or candy bars.
Remember that fresh fruits are generally healthier than sugary treats when you're weighing whether or not the keto diet is right for your needs. But, only one portion at a given time.
Is keto right?
You must make the conscious choice to ask tough questions, do your research, and find out what "right" is for you. The keto diet, an age-old and popular choice for weight loss, has many health benefits.
Ask yourself what your health goals are. Are you looking to lose weight, increase mental clarity, or balance your gut microbiome? If done with care, keto can be a great place for a start.
Keto works to reduce the amount of carbohydrates we consume, and is best when there are 20 grams a day. This puts our bodies in a biochemical state called nutritional ketosis, where fat is used as an energy source to replace sugar and glucose. You may find it difficult to stick with this strict carb limit initially, but over time you will adjust and master it.
You should be able to see positive metabolic effects by following the ketogenic diet as long as your nutritional quality is strong and you continue to eat healthy fats such as Omega 3 fatty acid and other beneficial mono/polyunsaturated oils found in avocados and salmon.
You can make keto a sustainable diet if you have the right nutrition intake. You can make keto work for you, if done correctly. Take the time to research and learn about keto from reliable sources before you take any big steps forward (or backward).
What amount of fat should you eat?
Essential fatty acids are essential for a ketogenic diet. This means eating foods like salmon, avocados, and nuts rich in healthy fats. You should also make sure you include other fat sources in your diet like butter, olive oil and coconut oil. These fats can provide many health benefits, such as better cognitive function, digestion and a stronger immune response. Generally, it would be best to aim to consume around 25-35% of your calories from fat.
Remember that ketogenic eating means being mindful of the fats that you consume. Avoid trans and saturated fats as they can increase the risk of heart disease, and other chronic illnesses. Instead, focus your efforts on incorporating healthy fats like olive oil, avocados (nuts), and fattyfish into your daily diet. By doing so, you will get all the essential fat acids and other nutrients your body requires to stay energized and healthy.
Aside from eating healthy fats, it's important to monitor how much you eat. Too much fat can lead weight gain. In contrast, too little can cause fatigue or other health issues. The key is to find the balance that suits you and your lifestyle. Tracking your daily fat intake using an app or food diary can help you ensure that you are getting the right amount. This will allow you to stay on track and ensure that you are getting the correct amount of essential fat acids each day.
The ketogenic diet is not meant to be a quick weight loss solution. While it can help you lose weight in the short term, it is important to ensure you eat a balanced diet and get enough essential nutrients.
